Woodlands Unit

The 35 bed unit offers patients comfortable facilities staffed by a team of highly qualified visiting medical officers, nurses and allied health professionals.

Our holistic approach to treatment is offered in a safe and supportive environment. Patients may be treated in either an inpatient or day patient setting depending on their individual requirements.

Each patient is admitted under the care of a consultant psychiatrist whom they see throughout their admission. Patients are also supported by our team of allied health professionals and highly trained nurses.

Treatment Programs

The Unit offers general group programs and activities for all patients.

In addition, patients may attend specialised groups across a range of treated disorders including anxiety and depression management. These groups address individual issues and feelings. They are psycho-educational and have a cognitive behavioural approach.

Where appropriate, psychotherapy is available to the individual which is one to one therapy focused on their individual issues.

Accommodation & Facilities

Our Mental Health Unit offers modern single and shared accommodation with ensuite, access to communal lounge and dining facilities.

Addictive Disorders

Addiction and mental health concerns often go hand-in-hand. Our experience team provides evidence-based treatment and programs to help you on the road to recovery.

Inpatient Treatment

Our hospital offers treatment of addiction and mental health issues that often go hand-in-hand.

We provide relapse prevention and lifestyle management strategies, and discuss the skills, techniques and strategies needed to understand and manage dependency disorders.

We adopt an abstinence-based approach to treatment. Our specialised treatment for addiction addresses the root causes of the disease, including:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Anger
  • Sadness
  • Guilt/shame
  • Abuse or trauma
  • Abandonment (emotional or physical)

Patients will attend a range of one-on-one sessions with their individual therapists and Psychiatrist and attend daily group programs based on their needs.

 

Anxiety

An anxiety disorder can develop in a number of ways. It is important for mental health professionals to develop targeted treatment for your anxiety.

At Toronto Private Hospital, we offer both inpatient and day programs for Anxiety management. Inpatients will be guided through a range of daily group sessions to suit the individual patient and one on one sessions as required. Bipolar Disorder

Borderline Personality Disorder

For patients diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, our programs help to control and manage intense, unstable moods, self-harm and unstable relationships.

Defence and Emergency Services

We provide an inpatient program, which provides an overview and introduction to key skills, designed to enhance individual learning and coping strategies.

As learning is sequential, you are required to attend all sessions, and completion of assigned homework tasks is essential.

Crisis survival skills including distraction, self-soothing and improving the moment; as well mindfulness skills including observing, non-judgement and reflection also form part of the program.

Our inpatient treatment is complemented by day programs, which provide continued support for people living with PTSD to better cope with day-to-day life.

Depression

Neurostimulation

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a proven treatment for depression and possibly other psychiatric disorders. Studies have clearly shown that rTMS is an effective treatment for patients with depression.

Older Persons

Our older persons program is designed to treat the mental health concerns of older patients.

Inpatient Treatment

We have a qualified team who are attentive and understanding to meet the needs of the elderly and ensure the comfort of all patients.

We provide assessment, management and support for people who have a mental illness over the age of 65 years, and we encourage family members and carers to get involved in helping their loved ones plan for their future.

Our assessment includes cognitive and general functioning to provide our patients with the best programs to meet their needs.

Our inpatient programs focus on educational, therapeutic and diversional activities.

Therapeutic interventions are provided on the basis of individual need and evidence-based guidelines depending on the diagnosis of each patient.

Interventions are categorised as follows:

  1. Healthy behaviours practiced by the individual, such as exercise, diet and routine
  2. Psychological approaches, such as building skills in helpful thinking, problem solving and coping with strong emotions
  3. Physical treatments such as medication and, less commonly, Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
  4. Changes in personal environment
  5. Communication and care tips for friends, family and professional care staff
  6. Helping patients access services and help for unmet social needs, such as loneliness, transport and housing
